One of the woodpeckers we really wanted to see in Goa, India, was Speckled Piculet
Picumnus innominatus. It took a while to track down this tiny bird, but in the end we found several. This male was photographed at Backwoods Camp by my fellow woodpecker searcher Simon Cook.

What's the story behind the epithet innominatus?
Dunno Rick... I think you know the answer ? Tell us...
I really don't know: it just seems like an odd name. If I had the chance to assign an epithet to a new piculet, I'd certainly go for something sexier than "unnamed"!
